May 10, 2022 – Chaberton Energy welcomes the receipt of conditional use approvals for two additional community solar projects in Howard County, MD. “Project Catherine” received conditional use approval on February 24th while “Project Lime Kiln” secured its conditional use approval on April 5th. Both projects received positive feedback from the Hearing Examiner at their respective hearings.
Project Catherine is located in Cooksville, MD on the grounds of St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church of Maryland and will occupy 19 acres of unused land with a total capacity of approximately 4 MWdc. It will serve residents in the surrounding communities via Maryland’s Community Solar program as well as a regional institution via the Maryland Aggregate Net Energy Metering program. Part of the project will also directly offset on-site energy consumption by the church. Project Lime Kiln will have a total capacity of approximately 3 MWdc and will serve residents in the surrounding communities via Maryland’s Community Solar program.
Combined, the projects will produce approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable energy, providing over 7,000 metric tons of annual carbon offset. This CO2 emission offset is equivalent to one year of electricity for over 1,400 homes or over 17 million miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle.
Both projects will include the installation of pollinator habitats in accordance with Maryland’s Pollinator Protection Plan. These habitats will promote local pollinators including birds, butterflies, and bees, who will in turn contribute to improvement of farm crop yield and quality for up to a 5-mile radius.
Chaberton Energy is excited to continue developing solar projects in Howard County and bringing clean energy and savings to our Maryland communities. Both projects are expected to be fully operational in 2023.
