July 27, 2022 – On Monday, July 18, 2022 Chaberton Energy secured county approvals to develop a community solar project in Kent County, DE. The approved solar farm will cover just over 20 acres of land, off Hopkins Cemetery Road, north of Harrington, DE, and will have a target operating capacity of 4 MWac .
Over the lifetime of the project, the project is expected to generate over 300 million kWh of clean energy. This equates to over 150,000 tons of total carbon offset, which is equivalent to carbon sequestered by over 7,000 acres of US Forests annually for the estimated 25-year lifespan of the project or reducing emissions from driving an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle for over 385 million miles.
Additionally, the pollinator habitat planned for the facility will feature native wildflowers to attract and promote pollinator numbers in the local community. A robust pollinator population has been shown to improve crop quality and yield on farms within a 5-mile radius and support local ecological health.
The project is expected to begin construction in 2023 and upon completion, will serve the local population by providing community solar subscription opportunities to residents and small businesses in the Delmarva Power utility territory.
