“What does it take to transition from aerospace to leading the nation’s #1 fastest-growing community solar developer? In this episode, Catherine McLean spoke with Erica Brinker, Chief Commercial & Sustainability Officer at Chaberton Energy, about the company’s 7,300% growth & its origination of 350 MW annually. Some of the company’s recent work includes floating solar projects with Noria Energy & community solar projects throughout the U.S. with Pivot Energy & Prosperity Works. From Delaware Business Times, Oct. 2024
“This project [in Harrington] originated about four and a half years ago in a really beautiful area. You have the water right there and a beautiful agricultural area…What so many family-based landowners find is that this [solar farms] helps keep their land in the family. In this case, it’s three sisters who own the farmland and it was the wish of their father to keep it in the family. Now it can be a dual-use to help provide additional revenue while also reducing costs for neighbors through solar energy. It’s a win-win.”
From Delaware Public Media, Oct. 2024
“Chaberton Energy broke ground on its first community solar project Thursday in Delaware. Project Crestone will preserve 25 acres of land and generate enough energy to power more than 500 households, according to Chaberton Energy. The land in Harrington is owned by a local family. Delaware produces less energy than any other state and uses 80 times more energy than it produces, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.”
From Solar Industry Magazine, Oct. 2024
“The company says this is the first time a community solar project has been recommended under Maryland’s Power Plant Research Program (PPRP), which coordinates the state’s comprehensive review of proposed power generating and transmission facilities.”
From Inc. Magazine, Aug. 2024
“To witness the future of energy, drive about 25 miles from Baltimore to West Friendship, Maryland. Turn onto a dirt road that leads to a 100-year-old farm, past rusting tractors, a pit of burning scrap wood, and a pond, and you’re there: a 6.25-megawatt solar energy installation on 23 rural acres. Chaberton Energy designed the 15,000-solar-panel array on land it leases from the farmer. Chaberton is a leader in a field that’s come to be known as community solar: small-scale green energy projects for groups that couldn’t otherwise build their own. The family that owns the farm will earn lease payments for 40 years and get free electricity, explains Chaberton founder Stefano Ratti: ‘This is a big deal for them; it’s a piece of their heritage.”
